Here is the schedule from the last event Production Sale and Cowdog Working Demonstrations – Begins at 1:00 p.m. Cowdogs will be worked, questions answered, sale will begin around 4 p.m. Each cowdog will have a bid board, you will write your buyer number on each cowdog you are interested in. The bidding will begin with the cowdog with the greatest number of bidders listed. A base/minimum bid will be posted on each cowdog being sold. Phone bids will be taken by calling (573) 659-5971. Pictures of cowdogs being offered for sale will be posted on my website by October 30, 2009. Cowdog and Handler Schooling for Hangin’ Tree Cowdogs – There are 5 spots left for the schooling/training. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. The topics to be covered will be the basics of starting a pup, beginning to teach your pup to retrieve cattle, the importance of ground work for schooling you and your cowdog, how to evaluate problems and ways to fix bad habits, electronic collar use, and basic skills for pasture and corral work. Pre-registration is the best way to be guaranteed to be able to work your cowdog. Food and drinks will be available on the premises. The weekend is meant to be a fun experience. You will be able to meet new people, visit about ranching and farming, and enjoy some time away from home. Bring warm clothes, overalls, caps, gloves – it may be windy and chilly – be ready to bundle up! Or, it may be 60-65 degrees and perfect! The following day, participants from five states took part in the cowdog and handler school. The school had a limited enrollment to ensure as much one-on-one instruction time between myself, the participant and their cowdog. The course covered basic principles of training including building a relationship with the cowdog and a variety of commands. Following the basic schooling, I worked with each cowdog to assess its level of working skills. Participants and owners were able to watch training tips and techniques. They were then able to apply the lessons with one-on-one training with their cowdog. Each cowdog and owner received several work sessions during both days.
